Özet:

The revolution of 1917, which resulted in the overthrow of the monarchy, did not leave an impact on the South Caucasus. The change of the existing form of government for a period was a harbinger of a radical change in the region. The peoples living in the South Caucasus formed local self-government bodies in line with their desire for self-determination. The Federal Republic of Transcaucasia, which was created to realise common political ideas in a unified state system, did not survive for long due to territorial claims of the Transcaucasian Seym and national conflicts. However, this institution had an important role in determining the future status of the region. The South Caucasus, long ruled as part of the empire, finally took its first steps in the struggle for national independence. North Azerbaijan realised that it was impossible to exist in a unified state system and consequently declared its independence.
