Özet:

This study examines the verse pilgrimage letters of a poet who lived in the 18th century, used the pen name Bâkî, and whose identity has not yet been determined. The main purpose of the study is to publish these verse letters of Bâkî. Additionally, a brief content analysis of these letters has been conducted. Despite extensive literature review and examination of biographical-bibliographical sources, no records about the poets identity have been found; therefore, inferences about the poets life are based on the content analysis of the letters. Of Bâkîs six verse letters in total, the first five were written in stanza-based verse forms, while the last one was composed in the form of kaside. Considering the volume of the letters, the first two letters and the last letter have been transcribed in this study. These letters by Bâkî serve as valuable sources as they reflect the perception and experience of pilgrimage in 18th century Ottoman society, descriptions of holy places, observations and experiences during the journey, transportation and accommodation conditions of the period, and social relations and cultural interactions. The letters reflection of the periods literary traditions in terms of form and content, their treatment of both physical and spiritual dimensions of the pilgrimage journey, and the clues they provide about the socio-cultural structure of the period make this study an important resource for 18th century Ottoman cultural and literary history research. The descriptions in the letters also contain valuable information about the architectural structures, urban life, trade routes, and caravan routes of the period, making these letters an important source for social history research as well. As a result of the research, a single copy has been found where these letters were compiled. This work, registered in the I.B.B. Atatürk Library, is the only copy that could be identified after comprehensive searches in manuscript libraries. Therefore, the text publication of the letters was carried out based on this single copy. As a result of this study, new examples will be added to the corpus of verse letters of the period, and a previously unknown poet in the history of classical Turkish literature will be introduced.
