Özet:

The subject of this article is human perfection in Aristotle and Maimonides. Its problem is the role of intellectual and moral virtues in human perfection. For this purpose, we first touched upon the relationship between the function argument and the concepts of highest virtue and happiness in Aristotle with human perfection. Then, we discussed the role of intellectual and moral virtues in human competence in Aristotle in the context of inclusivism and exclusivist interpretations. Aristotles statement in Nicomachean Ethics 10th book that the highest happiness will be achieved through theoria, which is the divine activity, highlights the idea of Godlikeness. When we come to Maimonides, it is seen that there is a close relationship between human perfection and the idea of Godlikeness imitatio Dei, as in Aristotle. Maimonides divides human perfection into four groups, and states that the first three, including moral perfection, do not constitute human perfection, while theoretical perfection is actual perfection. The fact that he accepts having intellectual virtues as the actual perfection makes the role of moral virtues in perfection controversial. Evaluating the primary and secondary literature on these debates, we concluded that the idea of Godlikeness, according to Maimonides, consists of intellectual virtues, and we supported this view with the vision of God and the theory of providence put forth by Maimonides in Delâletul-Hairîn.
