Özet:

The Melen Watershed, located in the Western Black Sea Region and designated to meet Istanbuls water demands, is a critical wetland ecosystem whose floristic diversity is threatened by increasing anthropogenic pressures. Therefore, monitoring floristic diversity in the watershed is of paramount importance. This study aims to identify the riparian flora of the watershed, analyze its ecological and phytogeographic characteristics, and provide a scientific foundation for conservation strategies. In the study, plant specimens collected during fieldwork conducted in 2023-2024 were identified, and the Raunkiaer life forms and phytogeographic distributions of the taxa were determined. As a result, 199 taxa belonging to 67 families were recorded. Among them, Lythrum anatolicum Leblebici Seçmen Lythraceae and Arum hygrophilum subsp. euxinum R.R.Mill Alpınar were identified as endemic species to Türkiye Hemikryptophytes, which constitute 47.74 of the flora, are the dominant life form, and Euro-Siberian elements 32.16 reflect the main phytogeographic character of the region. The study results indicate that the Melen Watershed exhibits a typical Euxinian Oxyn floristic character, but that agricultural activities and habitat degradation pose significant threats to the floristic composition. The study underscores the urgent need to enhance conservation and restoration efforts within the watershed.
