Özet:

This study aims to explain the onset of the Syrian Civil War, the involvement of regional and international actors, and how the civil war might conclude. In summary, it presents a comprehensive analysis of the Syrian Civil War. The study employs the method of process analysis to elucidate the connections between events, thereby uncovering the causes of the factual situation. It is based on secondary sources, drawing on materials from the fields of sociology, history, and international relations. The findings of the study are evaluated through the lens of Huntingtons conceptualization of Fault Line Wars and the constructivist theory. The primary argument of the study is that the most decisive factor in the emergence and prolonged duration of the Syrian Civil War is the transformation of conflicts arising from social identity differences into a full-scale war. In this context, the study attributes the outbreak of the Syrian Civil War to the demand for regime change by the Sunni majority against the Assad regime, which represents a minority rule. The Assad regimes power base is predominantly derived from minority groups, and the regime exhibits the characteristics of a minority coalition.
