Özet:

Urbanisation in Anatolia from the end of the Chalcolithic period and the increase in population in the Early Bronze Age led to a change in lifestyle. This study aims to provide a global overview of the Bronze Age through the teeth, the hardest structure in the skeletal system. Teeth provide valuable clues about lifestyles and health conditions, especially in skeletal series where little information is available. To understand the socio-economic structure and health conditions of the society, the jaw and dental pathologies of the skeletons dated to the early-middle Bronze Age from the Seyitömer Höyük rescue excavations were analysed in this study. In the study, the oral and dental health of the society was analysed through 229 permanent and 28 deciduous teeth and 326 dental sockets belonging to a total of 29 individuals: 5 children, 8 males, 8 females, and 8 individuals of unknown sex. Since no pathological findings were found in deciduous teeth and the protection conditions were not good, the study was conducted only on permanent teeth. In this particular context, following a thorough examination of permanent teeth and jaw pathologies, it was observed that tooth caries was 9,2, abscess 4,3, dental calculus 36,6, tooth wear 68,5 with wear grades 3 and 4, hypoplasia 5,7 mild, antemortem tooth loss 4,9, alveolar bone loss 95,8 moderate. An attempt was made to provide a diachronic perspective on the epidemiology of the dental pathologies analysed. When all the findings of permanent tooth and jaw pathologies are evaluated together, it is shown that the society had a carbohydrate diet with a predominance of cereals, and that it is compatible with other contemporary societies in Anatolia.
