Özet:

Islam in France has become an integral part of the countrys social fabric, particularly following the post-colonial period marked by increasing migration. Issues of identity and belonging occupy a central place in the integration processes of migrants. Muslim communities, especially those from North and West Africa, strive to balance the continuation of their religious practices with adapting to societal norms. In this context, religious rituals are not merely acts of worship but also play a vital role in identity construction and the preservation of cultural continuity. This study aims to examine the diversity of Muslim communities in France and their integration processes through the lens of religious practices. In the literature, religious rituals and everyday practices are often overlooked. Researchers such as Jocelyne Cesari, Olivier Roy and Vincent Geisser have focused on topics like the politicization of Islam and radical movements, yet the religious and cultural richness of the broader Muslim population in France remains underexplored. This gap has created a significant void in understanding the everyday manifestations of Islam in France within sociological and political contexts. The core issue of this study is the challenges faced by Muslim communities in France during their integration processes and the impact of these processes on religious practices. Frances strict secularism, which envisions the exclusion of religion from the public sphere, presents a dual struggle for Muslim communities: adapting to societal norms while preserving their identities. This challenge is further exacerbated by the individualization of religious affiliation, trends toward secularization and social prejudices. The theoretical framework of the study is based on Nancy Venels multilayered identity approach. Venel proposes a model in which individuals can simultaneously navigate multiple dimensions of identity and make strategic choices among them. This theory serves as a key tool for understanding the identity struggles and social integration processes of Muslim immigrants in France. The research was conducted using qualitative methods and the document analysis technique, with secondary materials subjected to data analysis. Various survey data conducted in France have been re-evaluated to examine the levels of religious commitment and integration processes of Muslim communities. The analyses encompass a wide range, from individual identity strategies to social cohesion. Venels multilayered identity theory provides a theoretical foundation for unraveling the multifaceted nature of these processes. However, the studys scope is limited to specific regions and sample groups rather than the entire Muslim population. This limitation partially restricts the generalizability of the findings, and it is essential to consider this constraint when interpreting the results. The aim of the study is to gain a deeper understanding of the religious and cultural richness of Muslim communities in France and to evaluate the challenges they face in integration processes from a sociological perspective. The research seeks not only to enhance the social visibility of Islam but also to inform the development of policies that contribute to Frances pluralistic structure. Findings that demonstrate the possibility for Muslim individuals to maintain their identities while integrating into society are among the significant outcomes of this study. By examining the religious and social structures of Muslim communities in France, the study aims to contribute to the analysis of the multifaceted relationship between secularism, identity and religious practices.
