Özet:

The Tanzimat Period was a process during which significant reforms were carried out to modernize the administrative and bureaucratic structures of the Ottoman Empire. During this period, new government buildings were constructed with the aim of strengthening local administrations. One of the places where efforts were made to build such buildings was the Harran District. This study examines the attempts to construct the Harran Government House and the renovation works undertaken during the Tanzimat Period to strengthen central authority. The research investigates the construction and renovation efforts in the Harran District between 1897 and 1917 based on archival documents. In this context, the study focuses on the districts administrative management, attempts to build a new Government House, and the renovation works carried out on existing structures. The findings of the study reveal that all efforts to construct a separate Government House ended in failure, that existing rented buildings were subjected to multiple repairs, and that the lack of a Government House caused difficulties for public officials in effectively performing their duties.
