Özet:

Urbanization, which is an increasingly important issue on a global scale, has various reasons. This situation, which generally occurs due to economic reasons, brings the issue of sustainability to the agenda along with increasing migration. Transportation, especially among the sectors where people operate intensively, can be an obstacle to urban sustainability. Therefore, in order to ensure urban sustainability in economic and environmental terms, the extent of emissions arising from the transportation sector must be determined. For this reason, this study aims to calculate the CO _2 emissions caused by road transportation in Ankara, where urbanization is intense. For this, Tier 1 method is used among the methodologies recommended by IPCC. In the study using data between 2010 and 2022, it is concluded that the emission in 2022 is 8.296.34 GgCO _2 . In addition, the total CO _2 emission change between 2010-2022 is 79.01. Diesel fuel has been found to cause the highest emissions. Local governments in Ankara have taken some steps to reduce emissions in the transportation sector. However, these steps may not be sufficient yet. Therefore, intervening with different tools can increase the effectiveness of the applications. In this regard, some regulations and sanctions need to be made on issues such as carbon tax, public transportation, fuel use and vehicles, and the study includes policy recommendations in this direction.
