Özet:

Tragedies, which originate from the ceremonies held in the name of Dionysus, the god of fertility, who dies with the arrival of winter and resurrects every spring, is the protector of vineyards and wine, are an artistic genre based on human suffering and terrible and sad events that happen to a main character. Although tragedies, one of the first examples of theater, started with the first human communities as a form of transmission used for worship and storytelling, their perfection with techniques such as dialogue, song and dance took place in the Ancient Greek period. The most famous representatives of tragedies that form the basis of the transition from myth to logos are Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. According to the information conveyed by Aristotle, tragedies, which provide purification from the negative emotions aroused by noble actions depicted through mimesis, point the way to understanding and explaning cosmos, natüre and human, as well as being works of art. In this article, we will focus on the development of tragedy since its first appearance. In this regard, the etymology of the concept will be touched upon, current historical conditions will be conveyed and general information will be given about the first examples created by Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. Thus, it will be tried to evaluate how the quality of tragedies, which deal with many themes related to human nature, has changed from Ancient Grek to Middle Age.
