Özet:

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between hedonic hunger and body image and depression in Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University Faculty of Health Sciences students according to sex and body mass index BMI. Material and Method: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University Faculty of Health Sciences students n713 during the 2023-2024 academic year. In addition to the general information questionnaire form, Power of Food Scale PFS, Body Image Scale BIS and BECK Depression Scale BDS were used in the study. The PFS consists of food available, food present and food tasted; the BIS consists of the sub-dimensions of negative perception of the body, evaluation sensitivity, positive perception of the body and body change, and the BDS is evaluated on the total score. Results: Female students had significant higher food available p0.004, food present p0.001, food tasted p0.004, PFS mean p0.001 and evaluation sensitivity p0.046 scores than male students. The food available p0.001, PFS mean p0.022, body change p0.001 and total BIS p0.003 scores of overweight and obese students were statistically significant higher than those of underweight and normal weight students. Overweight and obese students negative perception of the body p0.010 and positive perception of the body p0.026 scores are statistically significant higher than normal weight students. There is a weak positive correlation between food available score and negative perception of the body r0.182, p0.001, evaluation sensitivity r0.144, p0.001, body change r0.155, p0.001, total BIS r0.165, p0.001 and total BDI r0.140, p0.001 scores. There is a weak positive correlation between food present score and evaluation sensitivity r0.174, p0.001, body change r0.133, p0.001, and BDS total r0.158, p0.001 scores. There is a positive correlation between the food tasted score and evaluation sensitivity r0.207, p0.001, body change r0.151, p0.001 and total BDS r0.138, p0.001 scores, and a weak negative correlation between the positive perception of the body score r-0.176, p0.001. There is a weak positive correlation between the mean score of the PFS and the scores of negative perception of the body r0.143, p0.001, evaluation sensitivity r0.206, p0.001, body change r0.171, p0.001, BIS total r0.145, p0.001 and BDS total r0.175, p0.001. There is a weak positive correlation between the BDS total score and the scores of negative perception of the body r0.317, p0.001, evaluation sensitivity r0.300, p0.001, positive perception of the body r0.134, p0.001, body change r0.203, p0.001 and BIS total r0.336, p0.001. Conclusion: Our study results show that hedonic hunger is associated with depression, body image, BMI and sex in Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University Faculty of Health Sciences students.
