Özet:

The writing of commentaries is one of the most important forms of scholarly authorship in ḥadith literature. Systematic ḥadith commentaries, which began to appear in the 4th Hijrī century, have become key reference works in the field of ḥadith studies. Through these commentaries, the impact of the foundational ḥadith sources on the scholarly tradition has been more firmly established. Given their often voluminous content, some of these commentaries have required summarization. While certain commentaries were abridged by their authors themselves, others were summarized by later scholars. The primary aim of these abridgments is to produce more concise versions of the commentaries and thereby enhance their usability. This article examines the abridgment efforts related to ḥadith commentaries from a bibliographic perspective. In this context, existing summaries of ḥadith commentaries were identified and analyzed through a literature-based approach. Abridgments composed since the 5th Hijrī century were catalogued, and their citation details were provided. In this way, the development and trajectory of the concept of commentary summarization have been outlined. Furthermore, the aims behind this practice were explored through printed examples. Special attention was given to the background of the emergence of abridgments prepared both by original commentators and later scholars.
