Özet:

XIth century was a period of very different events for the Georgian Kingdom and the Eastern Roman Empire. These two states struggled with each other for a long period in accordance with their political interests. As a matter of fact, Basileios IIs expansionist policy was successful in the eastern regions and he achieved absolute dominance over the Georgian Kingdom, especially in the Tao region, which is called South Georgia. However, the political and administrative changes in the region and the attitude of the Georgian King Bagrat IV gave a positive direction to the Georgian-East Roman relationship, which was in the form of a struggle. More importantly, the Seljuk raids began to be seen in a severe way, which brought both states closer to each other. While the relations between the Georgian Kingdom and Eastern Rome continued in the alliance dimension, King Bagrat, who was aware of the strategic move that a marriage between the dynasties would bring, sent his daughter Mariam Bagrationi to the Eastern Roman palace. In time, Mariam reached an important position in the palace and married Emperors Mikhael Dukas and Botaneiates. She gave birth to a child named Konstantin from her marriage with Dukas. In this study, Mariam Bagrationis activities at the Eastern Roman palace and the effects she left behind, as well as her religious-cultural contributions to her country Georgia, have been tried to be explained by considering the sources of the period.
