Özet:

Though the military units called the infantryman yaya and the cavalryman musellem fulfilled their purpose in the first years of the establishment of Ottoman Empire, they gradually especially after the establishment of the Janissary Corps, lost their warlike character and began to take part in other supply services of the army. Infantrymen and cavalrymen, who lived on farms allocated to them when they were not on expeditions, after that worked in various services such as road construction and maintenance mining and castle repair in return for tax exemptions. One of the sanjaks where this military organization was established is Kastamonu. The cavalryman farms in the Boyabad district of Kastamonu Sanjak constitute the subject of this article. The primary sources providing information about cavalryman farms are Musellem cadastral books. This article, on the basis of cadastral books and other archive sources gives information about the names, structure, population, the registration conditions of cavalryman farms of Boyabad, and as well as the land use and production in the farms. Therefore, it is assumed that the study will contribute to revealing the initial stages of the military and administrative structure of the Ottoman Empire and the early history of the region. But these farms did also play an important role in the settlement of the region.
