Özet:

The political transformations that Azerbaijan experienced in the early 20th century reflect an important process that affected the regional balance. In this period, with the collapse of the Russian Empire and the impact of the 1917 October Revolution, Azerbaijan entered a new phase in its quest for independence. However, this quest was shaped by the establishment of a government under the Bolshevik influence and the start of the Bolshevization process. Azerbaijans independence movement declared on May 28, 1918, turned into a struggle surrounded by internal and external pressures. The occupation of Azerbaijan by the Bolshevik Red Army in 1920 accelerated the countrys Bolshevization process and led to it joining the Soviet Union in 1922 as the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. Within these political developments, the attitude of the Turkish Grand National Assembly holds an important place. Turkish Grand National Assembly, with its support for Azerbaijans independence, took a clear stance against Soviet influence. Turkeys effort to support Azerbaijan in diplomatic relations affected the regional balance and became an important element of Turkeys foreign policy. In this study, Azerbaijans Bolshevization process and the Turkish Grand National Assemblys attitude toward this process will be discussed in detail, and how Turkey-Azerbaijan relations were shaped by the complexity of the period will be examined. This analysis will offer an important window to understand the regional political dynamics from a historical perspective.
