Özet:

The period in which Ziya Gokalp lived was a time of great struggles and debates. He closely experienced the collapse of the Ottoman Empire on the one hand and the National Struggle and the establishment of a new state on the other, and these events had a deep impact on the formation of his works and ideas. In his time, there were deep disagreements and debates between Islamism, Ottomanism and Turkism movements. He tries to synthesize these currents of thought and adapt them to the conditions of the country. In his works, Gokalp was primarily concerned with the problems of stopping the downward trend of the Ottoman Empire and how to save the state before it collapsed. The modernization movement in the post-Tanzimat period closely affected the state as in many other areas. The intellectuals of the period discussed the influence of Western civilization in the modernization process, how it would be implemented and how society would be affected by it. Gökalp also plays an influential role in these debates. He emphasizes the importance of Western civilization, but stresses that this does not mean imitating the West, but rather taking the West as an example in terms of technical and scientific developments. Within the scope of the study, Ziya Gokalps view, influence and thoughts on the modernization process and the restructuring of the state in the post-Tanzimat period are discussed.
