Özet:

The use of social media by everyone of all ages, times, and places makes it easier for people to share and exchange information. However, it also leads to an increase in information distortions such as fake news and disinformation. The study uses bibliometric analysis to comprehensively reveal the general trends and academic perspectives of academic publications on disinformation and fake news in social media. A total of 490 articles published in scholarly peer-reviewed journals indexed in WoS between 2015 and 2024 were analyzed by the VOSviewer bibliometric analysis program according to field, year, author, index, journal, country, language, citation, and keyword criteria. More than half of these articles 55.10 belong to articles in the Social Sciences Citation Index SSCI. The United States of America is the country with the highest number of publications with 180 articles. Communication is the most cited topic in the articles by 65.30. The journal that published the most articles on social media and disinformation is the Journal of Medical Internet Research with 12 articles. Social media 280, fake news 162 and misinformation 160 are the most frequently used keywords in the articles.
