Özet:

International service trade has been increasing rapidly in recent years. In the 1990s, the World Trade Organization made regulations and rules that contributed to the development of the service sector. Situations hindering international trade in services have been eliminated or minimized. Additionally, service sectors were identified; health, education, tourism, consultancy, insurance, information services, etc. have become tradable. In the study aimed to investigate whether international health care the field called health tourism or health care export, which has recently become an attractive sector in the world, has a relationship with the exchange rate and economic growth. In this context, health service exports, which are Turkeys service export revenues, and real effective exchange rate, economic growth, current account balance, tourism revenues, and service expenses were analyzed with the help of Johansen Cointegration analysis. The test was applied using data from the period 2002:Q1-2019:Q4. According to the results, it has seen that there was a long-term relationship between the variables. Economic growth and tourism revenues positively affect health service exports. Real exchange rate, service expenditure, and current account balance negatively affect healthcare exports. In the study, it was found that the change in the exchange rate may be decisive in the country choice of health tourists. Moreover, the error correction model test applied in the analysis showed that deviations in the long-run equilibrium can be corrected.
