Özet:

A well-established academy-sector cooperation is one of the prominent goals of the National Vocational Qualifications System NVQS coordinated by the Vocational Qualifications Authority VQA in Türkiye. When a strong link is established between these two stakeholders, the employability of graduates is expected to be high. Further, employability plays a major role in training professionals equipped for todays rapidly changing industrial settings and roles. The significance of academy-industry cooperation for better employability of translation and interpreting TI graduates has been a topic of inquiry in the last decade in TI studies literature and some studies in this field reveal certain models and methods for designing TI curriculums catering for the needs and expectations of the labour market. Accordingly, this study aims to contribute to these methods proposing that the national occupational standards, as the outputs of the NVQS in Türkiye, can also be used as a shared reference source between academy and industry in the process of developing curriculums compatible with industrial needs. The step-by-step process included in the Guide for Developing Programs Based on National Occupational Standards in Education developed by VQA is used to that end. Referring to the process flows described in the Guide, this study entails the utilization of the National Occupational Standard for TranslatorInterpreter Level 6-NOSTI with the purpose of evaluating the compliancerelevance of the curriculums of TI departments with the occupational duties and tasks enlisted in NOSTI and developing NOSTI-compatible education programs. Besides, factors that may impacthinder the implementation of the procedures presented by VQA are also addressed in the study.
