Özet:

With the advancement of technology, accessibility and the widespread use of social media, there is growing interest in tourism regions, and the increasing density brings with it a number of environmental problems. In order to solve these problems, accurate site selection studies in settlements have a critical importance. The increase in population, especially in regions with high touristic attractiveness, highlights the necessity of accurate site selection studies. For this purpose, areas suitable for settlement in Kuşadası, one of the important tourism centers of the Aegean Region, were identified. In the study, Geographic Information Systems GIS and Analytic Hierarchy Process AHP methods were used in an integrated manner to minimize the negative impacts of tourism and urbanization in order to ensure environmental sustainability. In this process, natural factors such as topography, land use capability, elevation, slope, aspect, proximity to transportation network, distance to fault lines and hydrological factors were taken into consideration for the selection of settlement areas. These factors were supported by digital elevation modelling DEM, satellite images and on-site field observations, and criteria weights were determined in accordance with the AHP method. According to the results of the settlement suitability analysis, it was determined that the most suitable areas for settlement in Kuşadası are generally concentrated on flat terrains, with strong transportation connections and away from fault lines.
