Özet:

Societal ruptures, such as wars, revolutions, economic crises, ideological shifts, and cultural transformations, exert profound effects on individuals and societies. The reflections of such events on artists are often evident in their works, either directly or indirectly. This study examines the impact of historical societal ruptures on the art of painting, with a particular focus on themes of war, justice, and revolution. Art serves as a powerful medium for reflecting the spirit of an era. Therefore, analyzing the traces of societal ruptures in art not only enhances the understanding of artistic practices but also sheds light on the broader dynamics of these events. The research investigates how societal events are manifested in the visual arts at both aesthetic and content levels. Through an examination of different periods and geographies, the study evaluates the influence of societal events on form and theme in painting. The research adopts the Document Analysis method, a qualitative research approach. The artworks analyzed include Francisco de Goyas The Third of May 1808, Pablo Picassos Guernica, Eugène Delacroixs Liberty Leading the People, Käthe Kollwitzs The Assault, and İbrahim Çallıs Wounded Soldier. Within this context, the study aims to provide a significant perspective on the role of art in the processes of societal change.
