Özet:

This study examines the social and political foundations of spatial segregation from the perspective of urban sociology in the case of Erzincan city. Using qualitative research methods, the study discusses the spatial differentiation in Erzincan on the axis of historical and current policies. In the process of spatial segregation of cities, groups excluded on the basis of ethnicity constitute the main component of urban poverty. The research reveals how inequalities deepened by urban transformations, which are a result of neoliberal urban policies, are linked to urban ethnicity and social exclusion, and how transnational migration policies shape the urban living space. Today, urban ethnicity is shaped by urban transformation policies, displacement, gentrification and migration policies. Inequality in the urban structure formed as a result of these policies is deepening and class differences accompanying ethno-cultural distinctions are becoming more apparent. The research, which moves from this framework, discusses the spatial, social and class situations of Alevis, Boshas, Meskhetian Turks and Afghans in urban life in the case of Erzincan city.
