Özet:

Housing, which is a part of an artificial environment, has been the subject of many studies to meet the basic needs of human beings. The kitchen, which is located in a dwelling, is the most researched and modified place among these studies. This study aimed to ergonomically evaluate housewives kitchens and determine their satisfaction levels with their kitchens. For this purpose, 60 female participants residing in the Dikilitaş district of Beşiktaş district of Istanbul province and attending various courses at the Public Education Centre were reached. According to the results obtained, 62 of the kitchens used by the participants had an area of 10 m2 or more, and 54,5 of the participants stated that they were satisfied with the spatial adequacy of their kitchens. It was determined that the participants mostly had I flat kitchens, and in these kitchens, 60 of the participants adopted the modern kitchen style. On average, 61,4 of the participants stated that they spent more than three hours a day in the kitchen. As a result of the statistical evaluations, the factors necessary for a good kitchen design were revealed under five main headings. These include the usefulness of the kitchen countertop, anthropometric harmony, aesthetics, kitchen cabinet, and economy. Although the participants found the kitchen cabinets highly useful, they did not like kitchen cabinets in terms of aesthetics. The participants were highly satisfied with the height of the kitchen counter. The importance of kitchen design that is ergonomically suitable for users is an issue that cannot be ignored. For this reason, kitchen designs should be developed by considering the suggestions put forward in line with all the research on this subject, and current studies should be carried out to ensure that changes are followed.
