Özet:

One of the important study materials of the science of anthropology is the skeletal remains of people who lived in the past. With the osteoarchaeological studies 206 Parion İskeletleri Üzerine Osteoarkeolojik Bir Çalışma: 2020-2021 Kazı Sezonu PROPONTICA, 2023, Cilt 1, Sayı 2, Sayfa 205-224 to be carried out on these skeletal remains obtained from the archaeological and anthropological excavations, many social characteristics such as gender and age distributions, health conditions, genetic closeness, and nutritional habits of ancient societies can be understood. In this study, anthropological analyses were conducted on the skeletal remains dated to the Hellenistic and Roman periods obtained from the ancient city of Parion 2020-2021 South Tavşandere Necropolis and Drilling 11 excavation areas. Accordingly, in the 2020 studies, two males, three females, one infant, and eight individuals whose genders could not be defined due to insufficient data were identified, whereas in the 2021 studies, 7 males, seven females, and eight individuals whose genders could not be determined due to insufficient data were identified. The total number of individuals identified in both years was 36. After the gender determination and age estimation studies were completed, paleopathology studies were carried out in order to determine the health status of the Parion ancient city community. The pathological cases detected on the bones suggested that the Parion population did heavy work and that these works were not only terrestrial but also marine. We also carried out non-metric studies to determine the genetic affinities of the population. A comparison of the non-metric bone formations detected on the skeletons of 2020 and 2021 on a yearly basis suggested that both years were similar, and thus individuals had kinship relations. Through this study, paleoanthropological analyses of the skeletal materials obtained during the 2020-2021 archaeological excavation works in the ancient city of Parion have been conducted, and the paleodemographic structure of the population has been inferred. The results obtained have been evaluated in comparison with contemporary societies, determining the citys significance and relevance.
