Özet:

Pasin Plain, which has been on the transit route of nations throughout history, is a very important place where many ancient writers have made the subject of their works. Since the 13th century BC various local principalities have dominated the region. One of the most important of these is the Diauehi Kingdom, about which we can obtain information from Assyrian and Urartian inscriptions. Urartians started to be interested in the region from the first period of its establishment and made expeditions to the Northeast Anatolian Region. We learn from the inscriptions that the Urartian kings Minua and Argišti I made expeditions to the Diauehi Region. In the inscriptions in the region about these expeditions, Şaşilu and its King Utupurşi, which is shown as the capital of Diauehi, are mentioned. Again in the inscriptions, the names of the country of Sheşeti, Zua, Haldiriulhi and Baltulhi, which are affiliated to the Diauehi Kingdom, are mentioned. Karakale Baldızı Castle, located within the borders of Baldızı village, which we found during the archaeological surveys we have carried out for about 25 years in the Pasin Plain, which is located in the Upper Arax Basin, and which we had the opportunity to examine extensively in 2018, draws attention with its Iron Age architectural features. With this study, the center and place of the Baltulhi country, which was connected to Diauehi, whose name was also mentioned with inscriptions, has been brought to the history of the region. With this study, the place, importance and function of the castle in question in the Early Iron Age will be tried to be revealed by using new technological methods.
