Özet:

Orientalists mention many claims related to the hadiths they address in their studies of Siyer. These claims may be about the method of historical criticism or they may relate to specific topics in the sciences of Siyer and hadith. This study examines the position of orientalists on the hadiths related to the biography of the Prophet through the analysis of Stephen Shoemakers research titled In Search of ʽUrwas Sīra: Some Methodological Issues in the Quest for Authenticity in the Life of Muḥammad. The study was conducted using the analytical generalisation and modern critical method adjustable to scientific norms. This study is important because it examines the methods of criticism used in Islamic Studies. It reveals that Shoemaker critiques the method of isnad and text analysis through seven hadiths and instead adopts a historical-critical approach. The study presents the authors approach to his research and addresses his errors by analysing and criticising them. It is concluded that Shoemaker describes Akhbar al-Ahad as incorrect in terms of attribution and argues that all should be studied using historical criticism. His description seems to be subjective and reveals the aim of reducing isnad and text criticism and sahih hadiths in the authoritative hadith books.

Bu çalışmada ise, In Search of ʽUrwas Sīra: Some Methodological Issues in the Quest for Authenticity in the Life of Muḥammad başlıklı makale üzerinden, Oryantalistlerin Hz.
