Özet:

Assembly areas, which are defined as places where people can reach and be safe immediately during and after a disaster, stand out as places that do not pose a physical risk and are more advantageous in reaching basic needs. Assembly areas, which contribute to the provision of the safe environment that people will need after surviving disasters of different sizes that they may encounter at any time in the natural flow of life, are very important for cities. The location, size, proximity to health facilities and transportation networks of assembly areas are considered to be very important, and they should be equipped in the most functional way accordingly. In this study prepared with this perspective, the adequacy of the assembly areas of Malatya province in terms of population was analyzed. This adequacy was also observed in Malatya province, which was affected by 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes with epicenters in Gaziantep and Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023, and its adequacy and inadequacy were revealed by comparing the population data of the districts. As of 2023, the total population of Malatya, which consists of 13 districts and 718 neighborhoods, is 812,580 2022. In Malatya, where there are 75 assembly areas, there are 3 assembly areas in Akçadağ, Arguvan, Yazıhan districts; 2 assembly areas in Darende, Doğanyol and Pütürge districts, 6 assembly areas in Hekimhan district, 7 in Yeşilyurt district and 12 in Battalgazi district. Looking at the population statistics of these districts for 2022, it is known that Yeşilyurt district is 341.654, Battalgazi district is 307.478, and Akçadağ district is 27.872. In the study, only Kuluncak district was found to be sufficient in all three projections in the assembly areas where the adequacy was evaluated according to the areas of 10, 2 and 1.5 m² per person. Among the other districts, especially Yeşilyurt and Battalgazi districts, which are the most populous districts of Malatya, it is calculated that there is currently 0.72 to 0.85 m² of assembly area per person.
