Özet:

The increasing use of mobile devices, the internet, and social media networks has facilitated the proliferation of online gambling activities on social media. This research specifically addresses the rise of online gambling on social media networks, focusing particularly on the YouTube platform in the contemporary context. The broad user base of YouTube spanning almost all age groups attracts the attention of gambling companies. Additionally, the lack of regulation on YouTube and its content policies lead users to be exposed to various gambling contents and advertisements. This situation may bring about negative consequences that can impact communities and individuals affected by online gambling. The present study aims to draw attention to the escalating issue of online gambling and provide solutions to the threats it poses, especially on social media networks. Employing qualitative research methods with a phenomenological design, the study descriptively analyzes online gambling videos on the selected YouTube platform as a sample. Furthermore, Scopus database is utilized to examine online gambling research, exploring frequently used keywords and distributions by years. This analysis contributes insights for current and future research directions. Based on the data obtained from the research, it is concluded that YouTube is utilized as an advertising and marketing tool by gambling sites. Moreover, the content of these videos, primarily targeting children and young individuals, may pose threats and negative consequences for users.
