Özet:

Womens participation in representation and participation processes has been realized over time after various struggles of women. From the 1960s to the present day, women have taken office as long- or short-term heads of government in senior political management positions and have gained an important place in their countries and the world. Women heads of government, who are fewer in number compared to men, have influenced the political mechanism both nationally and internationally. In this study, Margaret Thatcher, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom between 1979 and 1990, and Tansu Çiller, Prime Minister of Turkey between 1993 and 1996, are compared as examples of women heads of government who have influenced national and world politics. These women heads of government were elected as the first female prime ministers of their countries from parties ideologically on the right and took office successively. After Margaret Thatcher left politics as prime minister, Tansu Çiller took office. The lives, political careers, prime ministerial periods, policies, and discourses of Margaret Thatcher and Tansu Çiller, who came to the fore as female heads of government in the male-dominated political mechanism, were compared using a holistic multiple case study from qualitative research methods. In the study, document analysis was used as a data collection technique. These women prime ministers, who served as prime ministers on different dates and in different periods, were similar in terms of discourse, politics, and ideology; however, they differed in terms of their processes of becoming prime minister and their rise in their political careers, their terms of office and their achievements.
