Özet:

This study examines the first labor strikes in the context of the new Trade Unions Law SK and Collective Bargaining, Strike and Lockout Law TİSGLK adopted after the September 12 coup in the context of changing industrial relations. After the coup détat, the rights and freedoms introduced by the 1961 Constitution were restricted, and it became more difficult for trade unions to strike and collectively bargain with certain criteria. In 1987, Netaş strike, Kazlıçeşme leather workers strike, Petroleum and chemical industry workers strike and Seydişehir Aluminum strike took place. The first post-September 12 strikes in 1987 brought gains to compensate for the post-coup period of wage erosion. On the other hand, there was also a period when employers resorted to strike-breaking with the connivance of the government. The pro-employer attitude of the Özal government that came to power after the coup also led to the strengthening of strike-breaking activities. With the data obtained from the newspaper archives of Cumhuriyet and Milliyet newspapers between November 1986 and December 1987, strikebreaking activities and what happened during the strikes are revealed. The study concludes that the victorious outcome of the 1987 strikes revitalized the trade union movement, but scab activities were strengthened due to the pro-employer stance of the government of the period.
