Özet:

Although the tımar system was the basis of the territorial regime in the Ottoman Empire, it had a very important role on the political, military, economic and social structure of the state. Dominance over the conquered places was established thanks to this system, the application area of which is quite wide. One of the most important aspects of this system is undoubtedly the reasons that make the fiefs of the tımar owners, which form the backbone of the tımar system, empty and the issue of transfer of the empty fiefs to the new cavalries who are worthy of receiving fief. Reasons such as death, waiver and not going to the expedition are the main considerations that cause transfer of the empty fiefs. In case of the death of a cavalry, the Ottoman administration places his fief on his sons or brother, or on another cavalry who is not related to blood, under certain conditions. If the cavalry renounces his fief of his own free will or for some other reason, does not participate in the expedition by neglecting his service, or escaping from the expedition, the vacated fiefs are mostly transferred to new cavalries in response to their service and usefulness in various expeditions and battles.
We can follow the operation and historical development of the tımar system in the Ottoman Empire thanks to the Detailed and Summary Registers containing land writing records and the Daily Fiefs Registers, where the appointment records are kept chronologically. In this article, the reasons leading to the transfer of a fief in the sanjak of Sivas were examined based on the Tımar and Zeamet Daily Registers No. 36, 239, 392 and 645 and the Checking-out Register No. 1066, and some determinations and evaluations were made based on the data provided by the registers. The aim of the study is to contribute to the studies on the Ottoman tımar system.
