Özet:

In this article, it is explained how the Armenian Question affects the relations between Turkey and the EU. It is known that Armenians rebelled against the Ottoman Empire between 1800-1915 with the instigation of Britain and Russia and committed civilian massacres. The Ottoman Empire enacted the Deportation Law in 1915 to ensure the safety of its own people and sent these people to Syria safely. With the Lausanne Peace Treaty signed in 1923, Armenians are granted political, economic and cultural rights in a minority status on an equal basis with Turks living in other countries. Starting from 1965, Armenians have been carrying out activities against Turkey in European countries, and between 1973 and 1994, they have been organizing terrorist attacks against Turkish diplomatic missions by establishing the terrorist organization ASALA. In their statements, the presidents of Armenia, which gained its independence on September 21, 1991, demand that the 1915 Armenian deportation be recognized as the so-called Armenian genocide, that territory be taken from Turkey and that Turkey pay a large amount of compensation to Armenia. It is understood that these claims are scientific, have no basis and are biased. EU member states recognize the so-called Armenian Genocide. Turkey harshly criticizes the European Union over the recognition of this so-called genocide.
