Özet:

The region of Rumelia or the Balkans constitutes an integral part of Turkish cultural history and literature. The historical trajectory of this region has not impeded the existence of literature; rather, it has given rise to numerous noteworthy poets and writers. The core themes prevalent in Balkan literature have been shaped by a series of impactful events, encompassing occupations, conflicts, forced displacements, and diverse political transformations both pre- and post-independence. The reflections of these changes in the mental world of Balkan Turks have manifested themselves in literature. Despite political divisions, the Turks living in this region have sustained their lives without severing their roots. Therefore, this commonality and cultural continuity also manifests itself in literary products. In this context, childrens literature, a common element of Turkish culture, serves as a significant example. From an early age, literature, along with family and education, plays a role in instilling national consciousness and identity awareness in children. This study examines elements of national consciousness in Balkan Turkish childrens poetry as a form of preserving identity against political, economic, religious, and cultural oppression in the region. The analysis is conducted through a selection of exemplary poems. Ultimately, the findings reveal that within Balkan Turkish childrens literature, literary creations featuring themes such as native language, patriotism, homeland awareness, and cultural perpetuity through religious observances and national celebrations are fashioned with the intent of establishing and safeguarding national consciousness.
