Özet:

Ceramic artist David Shaners 1934-2002 art is significant because it parallels the evolution of American ceramic history. Shaner is an artist who has produced a variety of works throughout his career that evoke thoughts on ceramic traditions and culture. The spiritual influences that guide Shaners work are based on his relationship with nature, from which he constantly draws inspiration. In American ceramic history, functionality has long preceded concept and content. Shaner developed a personal narrative by combining his education at Alfred University, which provided technical knowledge and craftsmanship training, with his love of nature. Shaner, a potter, artist, teacher and collector, has made significant efforts to ensure the continuity of the Archie Bray Ceramic Arts Foundation, established in the state of Montana, USA.The history of ceramic art in America from the mid-1900s to the present has evolved from craft to art, and David Shaners career offers insights that will broaden our understanding of this evolution. Since American ceramic art constitutes a part of the scope of the research, this topic is focused on in the first section of the article. The second section examines Shaners life, works, and the contributions of his art party to American ceramic art. The article uses interviews with the artist, books written about him, and websites. The meaning of his works and his life are analyzed based on the artists own statements. As a result of the literature review, it can be said that David Shaner was a master who made significant contributions to American ceramic art with his unique style of expression during his lifetime. Since there is no Turkish literature about Shaner, it is thought that conducting research on him will contribute to the literature.
