Özet:

One of the unique and specific Texts in Ancient Mesopotamian written sources is the text about the captivity of the god Marduk. It belongs to the Neo-Assyrian Empire Period and consists of two versions. Although both versions of the text lack dynamics, the disconnected transitions between topics are quite clear. The subject is generally the captivity of the god Marduk. The God Marduk is being held captive in his own temple. The reason why he was held captive is not stated in the text, but the god is described as looking after and protecting Assyrias interests. The god, who was beaten by his owsn guards for tyring to flee, expresses his innocence before the leading gods of Assyria and asks for permission to live. The innocence of God is ensured by the river ordeal. According to the text, this captivity coincided with the celebration of the Festival of Akītu in Babylon. The God Assur personally conducts the judgement of Marduk. The fate of the judged Marduk is uncertain. The text includes the information that Enūma Eliš, which will be recited at the Akītu Festival to be organised in Babylon, is also about the captivity of Marduk. From this point of view, it is a metaphorical interpretation of a Historical event in which a political superiority and victory is interpreted theologically by dramatising the political-religious troubles of the god Marduk.
