Özet:

Şerif Mardin, one of Turkeys leading social scientists, has made important contributions to the field of social sciences with his original studies in the fields of political science, history, sociology and sociology of religion. A lot of research has been done about Mardin, which mainly offers analysis of religion and sociology of religion in its studies. However, his methodological approaches to the sociology of religion have not been specifically studied except for a limited number of studies. Therefore, this study aims to examine the methodological contributions of Mardin to the Turkish sociology of religion, based on such a need. In this context; Mardins books, articles, presentations, interviews with him and various studies about him were used. In particular, his works within the scope of the sociology of religion were focused on, and the methodological approaches in these studies were analyzed with a critical view. According to the results, it has been seen that historical background analysis, interdisciplinary approach and understanding sociology have an important place in Mardins methodology for social sciences in general and sociology of religion in particular. Mardin has also benefited a lot from conceptual tools to understand society. In addition, he presented multi-layered and in-depth analyzes that consider the background, continuity and integrity of the subject, rather than simple evaluations.
