Özet:

Breast reduction surgeries are among the most common reconstructive and aesthetic surgeries performed. The most important objective in these operations is to maintain aesthetic appearance and function while diminishing the size and volume of the enlarged breast. Different techniques were developed to be able to produce the best postoperative long-term results. In this study, upper-pole fullness of the breast and whether the bottoming-out deformity was developed or not were compared in the consecutive 50 patients who had bilateral reduction mammaplasty by using the inferior pedicle and superomedial pedicle techniques in the ones Wise pattern skin excision was planned. Upper-pole fullness was observed in all cases of the group undergoing surgery with the superomedial pedicle technique, however it was observed in 31.6% of the cases undergoing surgery with the inferior pedicle technique. A statistically significant difference was determined between the rates of development of the bottoming-out deformity according to the techniques (p<0.01). When we compare the inferior pedicle and superomedial pedicle techniques in Wise pattern which is a frequently used skin excision pattern, more favorable results were achieved by using the superomedial pedicle technique especially in providing upper-pole fullness and in reduction of the bottoming-out deformity.
