Özet:

Distinguished as an outstanding staff officer, Kütahyalı Vecihi Bey first came to prominence during the 1909 Havran Dürzi Rebellions, being put forward to the extent that governorship was offered. During the Balkan War, although the divisional he served in as chief of staff at Ioannina suffered losses and lost its positions due to his tactical mistake, his career was not derailed. In World War I, he continued his service as Chief of Staff of the 15th Division at Çanakkale, then as Head of Operations for the 15th Corps in Galicia, and finally in Palestine until he was captured. After returning from captivity, he ran as a parliamentary candidate from Kütahya in 1919 but was not elected. Though he did not actively participate in the National Struggle, he praised the movement and its commanders in his memoirs. By writing his World War I memories promptly, he aimed to leave valuable lessons for future generations. Passing away at the young age of forty-one, Vecihi Bey is remembered as one who devoted his life to war and public service. His memoirs offer a realistic view by criticizing failures while highlighting the sacrifices of Turkish soldiers.Particularly renowned for his Palestine memoirs, Vecihi Beys biography is, for the first time, comprehensively documented in this study.
