Özet:

The last period of the Ottoman Empire witnessed innovations in the field of ethics, as in many other fields. Although moral writers did not reject the classical understanding of ethics, they thought that it could no longer provide direct solutions to new problems and attempted to establish a new system and language of thought. One of these writers was Rıfat bin Mehmed Emin. In Fezâil-i Ahlâk, the first work he wrote in 13111893 that was directly related to the field of ethics, the author continued the tradition of Tahzîbül-ahlâk. Rıfat bin Mehmed Emin, a moral science instructor at Mekteb-i Sultânî, was an influential Ottoman thinker who made significant contributions to moral philosophy. One of his most notable works, Ahlâk-ı Nazarî ve Teracim-i Ahvâl-i Hukema, published in 13121894, explores various aspects of moral philosophy. In this work, he examines ethical issues and presents the biographies and key ideas of philosophers from Ancient Greek, Islamic, and Western traditions. Rıfat Efendi also interpreted Immanuel Kants concept of duty ethics, which was gaining increasing prominence in the Ottoman intellectual sphere, and integrated these ideas with Islamic moral thought. This article aims to analyze his ethical perspective within the framework of Ahlâk-ı Nazarî.

Mekteb-i Sultânînin ilm-i ahlâk hocalarından olan Rıfat bin Mehmed Emin, ahlâk felsefesine dair önemli eserler kaleme almış bir Osmanlı düşünürüdür.
