Özet:

Nietzsche uses a figurative language to express his thoughts. The desert is one of the most important images of Nietzsches literary-philosophical vocabulary. The desert provides the space necessary to assess the state of the modern world. The desert is the site of confrontation with modern culture and the instrument of its critique. He identifies the human condition that dominates the modern world as desertification. Desertification is the fate and doom of the earth. According to him, the growing desert reached the borders of the city and swallowed civilization. Everyone is now an inhabitant of the desert. The reason for desertification is nihilism, which is the result of the Western metaphysical tradition and its ascetic moral ideal. This desert is not just a physical but a metaphysical one. The metaphysical desert is the embodiment of nihilism. The desert is the topography of a God-deprived world. The reason for nihilism is that with the death of God, existence has lost its meaning and direction. The desert, which has a dual function in Nietzsches discourse, is both an image of disaster and a place of salvation. The desert is a place of deprivation of life, of loneliness, of exhaustion as well as of salvation, of re-creation of life. According to him, science, philosophy and religion cannot provide a solution to the desertification problem. For him, desert is also a non-Western spatial measure to be used to think beyond Western subjectivity and values.
