Özet:

This article examines the historical background of Mehmet Ali Aynis article Note sur lidéalisme de Djelaleddin Davani 1931 and the basic approach adopted by its author is a retrospective method. In this framework, firstly, by referring to the historical background of Aynis pre-Dawwānī works, it was shown that the aforementioned article was part of the authors project titled Turkish Saints. Secondly, the factors that prompted al-ʿAyni to write his article in French were analyzed, and the means of communication and intellectual networks he established with Western scholarly circles were analyzed. Finally, some observations were made about the hybrid subjects Ayni reconstructed within the scope of his biographical project and the points that should be approached with caution about his work on Jalāl al-Dīn Dawwānī were elaborated. Thus, as a result of our study, it was determined that Ayni wrote his article in French in order to introduce the Turkish-Islamic thinkers of the East Orient to the West Garp, and that he instrumentalized the biographical method in order to defend the idea of wahdat al-wujud and to oppose Kemalist historiography. Finally, in the appendix of our study, we aimed to contribute to the related literature by including the Turkish translation of the aforementioned article of the author.

Böylelikle çalışmamız neticesinde Ayninin Doğunun Şark Türk-İslâm mütefekkirlerini Batıya Garp tanıtmak amacıyla makalesini Fransızca kaleme aldığı, vahdet-i vücûd düşüncesini savunmak ve Kemalist tarih yazımına muhalefet etmek maksadıyla biyografik yöntemi araçsallaştırdığı tespit edildi. Son olarak çalışmamızın ek kısmında müellifin mezkûr makalesinin Türkçe çevirisine yer vererek ilgili literatüre katkı sunmak amaçlandı.
