Özet:

The titles and epithets used in the state organise the hierarchy between individuals. Especially when titles and epithets are given to rulers and members of the dynasty, they are also considered as a sign of sovereignty. The Abbasids are the longest ruling caliphate dynasty in the Islamic world. Abbasid Caliphs used various titles at different times in order to adapt to the changing political and social conditions throughout history. These titles emphasise the diversity and breadth of the Caliphs leadership roles. The Sāmerrā Period of the Abbasids, which lasted between 836 and 892, began with the transfer of the capital from Baghdad to Sāmerrā and represents a time when the Abbasid State was at its peak. The caliphs of the Sāmerrā period also used titles and epithets to strengthen their reign. This study aims to examine the use of Caliphate titles in the Sāmerrā Period, which was a tradition used by all Abbasid Caliphs, and the fact that these titles were not only a name but also carried political, religious and cultural meanings. It also investigates the role of the titles of the Abbasid Caliphs of the Sāmerrā Period in symbols of power and political dynamics. This study analyses how the titles of the caliphs changed during the Sāmarrā Period and the political and cultural effects of this change, evaluates the impact of the titles of the caliphs of this period on historical and cultural heritage, and aims to shed light on future research areas. Explanation of concepts, exemplifications and comparisons are used as methods. In the study, document analysis was carried out by using qualitative research method centred on main sources.
