Özet:

It is possible to receive news, which has an important place in human life, from many channels, tools and applications. With the high number of communication media that deliver news to the masses, competition has increased. As a result, the situation of resorting to clickbait applications in order to gain profit from the news has emerged. In this study, the attitude of local news websites towards clickbait and their social media strategies were investigated. The aim of the study is to reveal the attitude of local news sites regarding clickbait practices in their headlines and social media accounts and to understand to what extent the traps achieve their goals. Content analysis method was used in the study. Local news websites have used many clickbait methods ranging from classical click-oriented news created with methods such as question sentences to images, from formatting the text to leaving it ambiguous. As a result of the analyses, it was revealed that Yenihaber used clickbait at a rate of 74 percent, Merhaba at 72 percent and Hakimiyet at 55 percent. These websites were ranked in the same order in terms of being visited in similarweb statistics. Thus, it was understood that clickbait reached its target. The study also revealed that newspapers do not use social media in accordance with todays conditions, do not produce content specific to it, and see it only as a tool to retransmit the news on their websites. Newspapers also intensively share clickbait news on their social media.
