Özet:

The history of humanity can also be considered as the history of social change. This process of change does not occur in a straight line but rather takes place in a fluctuating manner. One of the breaking points that can be considered important in terms of social change is the change that occurred under the influence of industrialization. This process, also referred to as the transition from traditional to modern, forced the social structure to change with all its institutions. Like all other social institutions, the family institution could not avoid this. While the ideal family type of the traditional period was accepted as the extended family, the family type that was considered appropriate for the modern period was the nuclear family. With the transition to the post-modern period, it is seen that the nuclear family has given way to diversified new family models. In this study, the reflection of this process of change in Turkey is discussed based on the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute. The conclusion reached in the study is that Turkey is also facing the same situation that the West faced half a century ago. In particular, the increase in the rates of single-parent and childless families, the increase in the age of marriage, the increase in divorce rates, and the decrease in fertility rates are the results of this. It is of vital importance to develop social policies against this situation, which is fixed by statistical data.
