Özet:

In 1903, after the first motorised flight of the write brothers, aeroplanes were first used in mail transport, except for military purposes. Afterwards, aeroplanes have played a major role in cargo transport. This research aims to examine the contribution of air cargo transport at Dalaman Airport to the foreign trade of Muğla province and the operational challenges encountered in this process. The air cargo capacity and export data of Dalaman Airport between 2019-2023 are analysed in detail. The findings show that air cargo transport has a significant impact on the export performance of Muğla province, especially during the pandemic period. However, it has been determined that the current air cargo capacity of Dalaman Airport is insufficient to meet the increasing export demand. As a result of the research, it is suggested that modernising Dalaman Airports air cargo infrastructure and increasing its capacity will have positive effects on the regional economy. This study is important in terms of revealing the effects of air cargo transport on regional development.
