Özet:

Siirt is a typical example of ancient Middle Eastern cities with a history of ten thousand years. The fact that it was on the road routes caused it to be invaded frequently. Many political structures, from the Akkadians to the Ottomans, dominated. However, Siirt attained political and economic stability during the time of the Ottoman Empire. The first official record we have about Siirt is the land registry records kept in 1518. According to these records, Siirt is a modest district consisting of 4 neighborhoods of Diyarbakır. The population increased over time. It received serious immigration, especially from the Middle East region. The number of neighborhoods increased to 14. This district became a sanjak. The city developed around the Ulu Mosque in accordance with the classical Ottoman city architecture. During the Republican period, this city became a province. Neighborhood names have been changed. The city expanded from the hills to the flat area. The first reconstruction plan of Siirt was prepared in 1949. However, this plan was not fully implemented. After the year of 1950, migration movements from rural areas to the city center accelerated. The city continued to grow rapidly. A new reconstruction plan was prepared in 1967. Significant changes were made on this plan in 1977, 1995 and 2006. However, since these plans produced temporary solutions to the accumulated problems, they were far from providing Siirt with a modern structure that would carry it into the future.
