Özet:

The presence of a strong and sustainable economic structure in a country is indicative of a well-functioning and healthy societal order. Improving the health status of the population constitutes one of the primary objectives of healthcare systems. In this context, identifying the impact of fundamental health indicators on the system is essential for improving these indicators in line with societal needs. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of selected health indicators on economic growth in Turkey through spatial analysis, covering the period from 2009 to 2022 for all 81 provinces. In the proposed model, per capita Gross Domestic Product GDP is employed as the dependent variable, while the number of physicians, number of hospital beds, infant mortality rate, and population are included as independent variables. Three different spatial econometric models are utilized in the analysis: The Spatial Autoregressive Model SAR, the Spatial Durbin Model SDM, and the Spatial Error Model SEM. The findings reveal that the number of physicians and hospital beds have a statistically significant and positive impact on economic growth. Conversely, the number of hospital beds in neighboring provinces is found to have a statistically significant negative effect on a provinces economic output.
