Özet:

The relationship between art and environmental awareness forms an important intersection in research areas such as environmental policies, local governance, and cultural studies. This study examines the potential of art in fostering environmental awareness within the framework of potential sister city relationships between Turkey and the Arctic. Sister city programs offer strategic opportunities to achieve environmental sustainability goals by promoting cultural and social collaborations between local governments. In this context, art stands out as a powerful tool to help individuals develop ecological sensitivity and raise awareness of global environmental issues. The research explores the potential of local governments to generate social awareness through art-based programs. It emphasizes that such programs, through intercity cooperation, can strengthen environmental sustainability and promote meaningful dialogue among communities. The theoretical framework developed through a literature review on environmental sustainability and art education clarifies how these initiatives contribute to global environmental policies. Methodologically, the role of art in creating environmental awareness is explored through a theoretical framework with an analysis of case examples. As a result, it is concluded that art-based sister city projects can serve as an effective tool for achieving environmental sustainability goals and play a significant role in addressing global environmental challenges. This study highlights the need for a broader consideration of arts role in fostering environmental awareness.
