Özet:

Two Eros sculptures were purchased and added to the Aydın Archaeology Museum collection for preservation in 1972 and 1977. Both the findspot and find condition of the sculptures are unknown, though this study pays particular attention to their typology, style, and iconography. Workshop, school, and dating suggestions are discussed upon considering the available data. This study does not provide any information regarding the find condition of the examined sculptures since they are not archaeological excavation findings. Employing the analogy method, the works are dated to the Roman Imperial Period at settlements near the Caria Region and its surrounding area, specifically in Western Anatolia. Both sculptures are depicted in Desmios style, similar to the Attis iconography and display characteristics of the 2nd century AD during the Roman Imperial Period. Therefore, the suggested dating is the Late Hadrianus-Early Antonine for the E.1 Eros sculpture, and the Late Antonine-Early Severan Period for the E.2 sample. Based on these analogical evaluations, it is understood that both sculptures stylistically resemble the sculpting school of ancient Aphrodisias.
