Özet:

The way in which the Christian Catholic world perceived Islam and Muslims in the Middle Ages was among the important factors that influenced the history of the world in terms of its consequences through the Crusades. This article focuses on the theoretical framework of the perception of Islam and Muslims formed in the West with the Crusades and the way it was put into practice in the First Crusade. In this sense, firstly, the conceptual framework of the perception, which is claimed to exist at the theoretical level in the crusader chronicles, is drawn, and then how it was put into practice through their narratives; The massacres of Antioch, Maarratunnuman and Jerusalem are given as examples and the way they were put into practice is described. The raw material of the article is the chronicles of the First Crusade in general. The main problematic of the study is shaped around the questions of what are the main factors that constitute the theoretical level of the discourse, how it shapes the perception, and what consequences the ways in which the perception is put into practice lead to. The article discusses and explains the questions mentioned at the problematic level with the method of historical analysis. The discussion concludes that with the establishment of the Cluny order, the perception of Islam and Muslims, which was created through the ideal of the Holy Land during the reformation process in Catholicism, turned into a Crusade in line with the discourses of Pope Urbanus II and that this constituted a massacre unprecedented in history. Thus, it is concluded that the perception of Islam and Muslims by Catholic Christians cannot be handled independently from their own worldview and civilisation imagination.

Orta Çağlardaki Hristiyan Katolik Dünyanın İslam ve Müslümanları algılama biçimi, Haçlı Seferleri üzerinden doğurduğu sonuçlar itibariyle, dünya tarihini etkileyen önemli unsurlar arasında yer almıştır. Makale, Haçlı Seferleriyle birlikte Batıda oluşan İslam ve Müslüman algısının teorik çerçevesinin nasıl olduğunu ve bunun Birinci Haçlı Seferinde pratize edilme biçimi üzerinde yoğunlaşmıştır. Bu anlamda önce algının haçlı kroniklerinde teorik düzeyde var olduğu iddia edilen kavramsal çerçevesi çizilmiş, ardından onların anlatıları üzerinden uygulamanın nasıl gerçekleştiği; Antakya, Maarratünnuman ve Kudüs katliamları örnek verilerek uygulamaya konma biçimleri tasvir edilmiştir. Makalenin ham maddesini genel itibariyle Birinci Haçlı Seferi kronikleri oluşturmuştur. Çalışmanın temel sorunsalı söylemin teorik düzeyini oluşturan ana etmenlerin neler olduğu, bunun algıyı nasıl şekillendirdiği, algının pratize edilme biçimlerinin hangi sonuçlara yol açtığı gibi sorular etrafında şekillenmiştir. Makale konuyla ilgili problematik düzeyde söz konusu ettiği soruları tarihsel analiz yöntemiyle tartışmış ve açıklamıştır. Tartışma, Cluny reform düşüncesi çerçevesinde, Katolisizmdeki reformasyon sürecinde Kutsal topraklar ideali üzerinden oluşturulan İslam ve Müslüman algısının, Papa II. Urbanusun söylemleri doğrultusunda Haçlı Seferine dönüşmesi ve bunun tarihte eşine az rastlanan bir katliam oluşturduğu sonucuna varmıştır. Böylece Katolik Hristiyanların, İslam ve Müslüman algısının, kendi dünya görüşlerinden ve medeniyet tasavvurlarından bağımsız ele alınamayacağı çıkarımında bulunulmuştur.
